RU Fans Share Where They Were the Last time RUMBB Went Dancing, What it Means To Them
Every fan of Rutgers Men’s Basketball knows one stat better than any other, even as the number changed every year: It’s been “x” years since Rutgers was in the tourney.
Since 1991, the team on the court has struggled to achieve consistent success; we got close in the mid 2000s (who still has their “I Doubylieve!” shirts?) but still only reached the championship game of the NIT before the program faded again.
After a breakout year last year that ended with the tournament cancelled by a global pandemic (who didn’t see that coming?) this year the team seems to have finally punched their ticket with an overtime win against Minnesota.
So when the Rutgers Court Club asked folks on Twitter where they were in 1991 and what it means to them, the response was enthusiastic and full of catharsis.
See below for some of those stories from longtime fans!
The Rutgers Court Club, founded in 1958, is the longest standing athletic support organization at the State University of New Jersey. Founded by former Scarlet Knight great and hall of famer, George Makaronis, the club and its membership have been vigilant in aiding the program it bolsters. You can join them at rutgerscourtclub.com!
