Dear Rutgers Alumni Friends and Family,
The Rutgers Alumni Association (RAA) is turning 193 this year and years 191 and 192 were an amazing whirlwind. It was an honor and a sincere pleasure to have served the RAA as its president during those years. As a team, we saw ourselves through some of the most difficult months of the pandemic as new variants shut down many of our activities and impeded opportunities to convene.
But it wasn’t all difficult and challenging! We shifted the way that we do business and further strengthened our bones by reevaluating our priorities and rewriting our bylaws for the first time in a meaningful way in almost 40 years. We investigated how we communicate with all of our graduates and have begun new and innovative methods in interacting with each other. We took stock of our organization’s history and have looked to expand upon its long and rich traditions to include all future alumni.
Our relationships with the School of Arts and Sciences have continued to expand with Co-Executive Deans Susan Lawrence and James Masschaele after the retirement of Executive Dean Peter March last summer.
We have spent a lot of productive time with Rutgers University President Jonathan Holloway and Executive Vice President for Development and Alumni Engagement Kimberly A. Hopely. We hold all of these relationships dearly and look forward to further expanding them under future RAA leadership including the new Executive Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, Juli Wade.
The RAA officers that have served you well over the past two years have made an impression on the future of this organization. The committee chairs have helped the RAA navigate a return to a new normal through new and innovative programming and digital communications. The members of the board have offered invaluable insight into the needs and goals of this organization that have enabled us to continue to lead the alumni community.
The RAA is an all-volunteer organization, and we are successful because of you and so many dedicated and incredible people. We strive to be as inclusive as possible and to continue to provide you with what you need – including this – the last print magazine dedicated to Rutgers alumni.
The RAA is only as strong as it is because of its members and its volunteers. I continue to encourage all of you who are reading this to participate in an event, a committee, or our expanding online communities.
We R your professional guides and tools. We R your friends. We R your allies. We R You.
In Rutgers Spirit,
